Ottawa Area Chamber of Commerce sponsors Shuck in Days on October 3 with Gary Underwood as chair for a second year. About 75 to 100 participants from several states are expected to compete at Sylvester Ranch southwest of Ottawa. Activities include craft booths stage coach rides children games kiddie tractor pull antique farm and horse drawn equipment displays and a ranch venue with awards at the end. Admission is two dollars for ages 12 and up and one dollar for ages 6 through 12.
Pomona Lions Club sponsors a free bean feed at Pomona High School from 5 to 8 pm with ham and beans gratis and pie sales benefiting a scholarship fund. Other items include a North Baptist crusade featuring Rev. Jacob Aranza, youth evangelist and author, will tour Franklin County schools and venues next week to urge postponing sex until marriage and to warn against drugs and alcohol. He will speak at Wellsville High, Central Heights, Ottawa High, Pomona High, Ottawa Middle, a county youth rally, and a community revival, with topics drawn from his books and his message to teens.
U S District Judge Dale Saffels urged Reebok International and Payless ShoeSource to settle the patent infringement case out of court to avoid potentially months of litigation. He suggested mediation while noting Payless faces a possible injunction over five shoe types and Reebok seeks profits running into millions.
