Best nutrition and health plan to ease cattle weaning stress
Kansas State University extension livestock specialist Gerry Kuhl urges a solid program to prevent health problems and boost performance during weaning. Vaccinate calves 3 to 4 weeks before weaning, use creep feeding wisely, consider Rumensin or Bovatec, process promptly with vaccines and parasite control, implant at processing, dehorn and castrate early, and ensure clean, dry receiving facilities with ample feed space and proper handling.

FCS District Report Shows Worsening Agricultural Credit Conditions
The Tenth District survey of 166 bankers finds farmland values down 6 percent from the prior quarter and 40 percent from 1981 highs. Dryland, ranchland, and irrigated values fell across states, with mountain states bucking the trend by slight gains. Interest rates eased modestly for operating, interim, and real estate loans, but loan repayments remained slow and renewals rose. Nonfarm rural businesses face rising financial strain, with 23 percent in severe distress and farm equipment dealers and grain elevators reporting notable closings in early 1985.
