Border opens as Kuwaitis flee into Saudi Arabia
Refuges say Iraqi forces opened the Khafji crossing without notice causing a mass exodus of several thousand Kuwaitis and others. Iraqis confiscated identity documents to hinder return while border officials and a Kuwaitis committee screen travelers. Menninger Memorial Held On Prairie Near Topeka
Indian elder Isaac Obennick led a Potawatomi blessing for Dr Karl Menninger, honoring the world renowned psychiatrist. Forty children from Eagle Ridge Village joined in as cedar smoke rose over the prairie west of Topeka. Judge Terry Bullock noted Menninger’s love of nature and the Native culture. The ceremony included a eulogy by Rev. W James Richards and a letter from graduate Steven Taylor. Seeds of native plants, Menninger's favorite wild flower butterflies milkweed, were distributed for planting on the prairie. Rosemary Menninger spoke of the children’s desire to remember her father.
