Dropout Rates Fall for Whites and Blacks But Not Hispanics
The Education Department reports a 34 percent drop in yearly high school dropouts for blacks and whites from 1980 to 1991, totaling about 348,000 students in 1991, while Hispanic dropout rates remain high. Blacks 16 24 years fell from 21.3% to 13.6% and whites from 12.3% to 8.9% in that period, with overall nongraduation figures reflecting cumulative years without diplomas.

Commission pays tribute to long serving city worker
