SQUEALIN' CLEAN CINCINNATI PIG OF IVORY SOAP
An enormous winged pig sculpture weighing over 7,000 pounds was carved from 26,666 bars of Ivory soap to honor Cincinnati’s soap and pork history. Artist Bev Kirk and a small team used assorted tools to shape Sudsie for display at the International Economic Development Conference in Cincinnati. The piece sparked local curiosity and interactive reactions as visitors viewed the unconventional art.

Ferne Louise Brewer of Shell Knob Mo died September 11 2003 at her home aged 78. Funeral services were set for 10 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church Paola with burial in Miami County Memorial Gardens. She grew up Fontana and worked in shipyards during World War II then at Made O Day Sewing Factory Osawatomie. Survivors include husband Henry Brewer two daughters two grandchildren and two sisters. Ruby Ellen Mendell 82 died September 12 2003 at her home in Greeley Colo. Funeral services 10 a.m. Wednesday at Adamson Memorial Downtown Chapel with burial in Eaton Cemetery. Born in Rantoul she taught in rural Miami County for five years then worked as a riveter and later moved to California and Colorado. Survivors include son Gary Mendell daughter Gwen Ogan brother Virgil Finch sister Erma Jean Finch and two grandchildren. Burial and visitation details provided with care arrangements under Adamson Memorial Downtown Chapel and Hospice of Northern Colorado.
