$75 Million Cutback Reduces School Milk Supply
Washington AP The federal milk program faces a $75 million budget cutback for 1973-74, drivers expect an 18 percent drop in milk consumption with total half pints falling to about 5.5 billion. Last year the department served 6.5 billion half pints amid a prior plan to trim a special milk program from 100 million to 25 million dollars annually. Some districts report cutting milk servings due to higher costs and reduced funds, while Congress weighs restoring full funding. Yeutter projects an 11 percent rise in milk served to students on hot lunch programs this year.
