Kansas High Court Extends Half Share to Spouse Killer
The Kansas Supreme Court ruled 5-1 that a spouse convicted of murder can receive an undivided one half of property held in joint tenancy with the deceased. In Victoria Ann Shields’s case, the court upheld prior rulings granting her one half of joint property she shared with her murdered husband, reversing lower court decisions and affecting related estates such as Thad Sandstrom’s.
