Rockefeller Should Have Gone To Attica
A nine member state commission concluded Gov. Nelson Rockefeller should have visited Attica before ordering a police assault during last year’s prison riot. The 518 page report, issued on the riot anniversary, condemns planning and management failures, criticizes officials and media coverage, and notes the riot arose spontaneously among largely Black inmates. It finds no unified command for the assault and urges on scene presence and precautions against excessive force. The report also questions the use of hostages and calls for accountability without blaming Rockefeller for the deaths.

Auto Restyling Not All That Costly

American Motors vice president Iain Enderson says abandoning style changes could save about 2 percent on a one time basis due to ongoing retooling needs. Chrysler president John Riccardo and CEO Lynn Townsend echo, noting consumer demand for fresh styling. Hearings focus on pricing practices, not price increase requests by major firms.
