Ottawa High School junior varsity volleyball team went 2-1 in a busy Thursday slate and prepares to defend its Highland Park Invitational title in Topeka Saturday. Franklin County Tackle Youth Football, led by Justin Whalen and Tim Taylor, started after nearly a year of prep. The third and fourth grades opened with a 6 to 0 overtime win in Topeka, while fifth and sixth grades began play midweek. About 57 boys joined, with practices four days weekly as the league aims to expand beyond 1,000 participants statewide.
