Five years after 9 11 books shape Ottawa library shelf

Ottawa Library has added 64 books since September 2001 reflecting events spawned by 9 11 including speculations on Iraq Homeland Security and Islamic politics. New titles cover the 9 11 Commission The Looming Tower and Wake Up Call while fiction by McInerney Glass and others probes the era. The Daughters of the American Revolution also donated American flags.

Out & About on Patriot Day in Ottawa events

On Patriot Day the fifth anniversary of 9 11 Ottawa hosts library and community activities. At 9 00 a m to 10 00 a m attendees can check out related books and receive an American flag. PATH Exercise Group meets at Don Woodward Community Center at 517 E Third St Ottawa. Story Time for children 3 and up with adult runs at 10 00 a m and 7 00 p m at the Ottawa Library 105 S Hickory St. Books and Babies for infants 6 to 21 months with adult at 10 00 a m also at 105 S Hickory St. TALK Program at 2 00 p m in City Hall Library Conference Room 105 S Hickory St discusses The House of the Spirits by Isabel Allende. Page Turners Book Discussion Group meets at 6 30 p m at Ottawa Library 105 S Hickory St. Square dance lessons for all at 7 00 p m to 9 00 p m in First United Methodist Church basement.

Ottawa events calendar promotes state fair and local happenings

Jodie's Best Bets highlights Ottawa Herald Out About and On the Road items. Today through September 17 the state fair includes food music 4 H exhibits and more. A variety of community events follow from libraries to farmers markets car shows and youth programs at locations around Ottawa.

Ottawa area meetings and community group listings

A slate of local meetings includes the Ottawa School Board at Ottawa Middle School Commons, West Franklin School Board at the district office in Pomona, and a Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance session at the Franklin County Mental Health Center basement. Also scheduled are Lane City Council at City Hall, Williamsburg City Council, an Ottawa group of Alcoholics Anonymous meeting at First Baptist Church basement, Chamber Boards at the Ottawa Area Chamber of Commerce, another AA session at the same church, and Rotary Club at Ottawa University Mowbray Student Union.
