Average Home As Polluted As Waste Dumps
A five year federal study finds toxic chemicals in homes, from paint to cleaners, three times more likely to cause cancer than outdoor pollutants. EPA scientist Lance Wallace reports indoor exposure ranges from three to seventy times higher than outdoors, with showering identified as a key source of chloroform. The study measured air, food, and water exposure using wearable monitors, involving 350 people from Bayonne, Elizabeth, Greensboro, and Devil's Lake, showing near plants does not raise indoor exposure.
