OMA Country Talent Show finals at Ottawa Municipal Auditorium
Ottawa residents and area workers are among 18 finalists in the OMA Country Talent Showcase at Ottawa Municipal Auditorium. The 7:30 p.m. event on Saturday Sept. 19 features five outside judges, more than $10,000 in prizes, and emcee John Wilson with Delisa Dawn Jones and Route 66 entertainment.

Baker University enrollment hits new high in seventh straight rise
Baker University reports total enrollment at 1,867, a 14 percent year over year gain, spanning 868 in the Arts and Sciences, 871 in Professional and Graduate Studies in Overland Park, and 128 in Nursing. Nursing courses operate at Baldwin City and Stormont-Vail. professional programs up 30 percent. Enrollment ends Friday with some students arriving next week.

Marilyn Quayle to Campaign in Kansas for GOP
Mrs. Quayle will spend two days in Kansas next week, visiting Wichita on September 16 and Topeka on September 17 to raise money for Republican candidates. An $25 breakfast at 8:30 a.m. Sept. 17 at a downtown Topeka hotel is planned as the party’s unofficial meeting point.

State officer to visit OU for public talk
Carol Morgan a state deputy secretary of commerce will address Ottawa University students and the community at 10 am Wednesday in OU's chapel auditorium. A native of South Dakota she brings 18 years in state and local government across four states. She has served as special assistant to Jamie Schwartz and as director of the community development division in Gov John Carlin's administration. Morgan also worked in South Dakota's governor's office as a legislative liaison and held other roles. She has been a business manager for WRAL TV and controller for Capitol Broadcasting's TV division. The talk will cover aspects of public service with no admission fee and the public is welcome.
