McGill urges cautious yet tougher campaign finance rules
Prominent lobbyist Pete McGill urged Kansas ethics commission members to review and tighten campaign finance laws. He proposed restricting lobbyist solicitations, cutting PAC contributions and limiting campaign spending, while cautioning against overly strict lobbyist and conflict of interest rules that could deter candidates. McGill noted rising campaign costs and said PACs and lobbyists increasingly influence votes, suggesting a starting point to reduce House and Senate campaign contributions from 500 and 1,000 dollars respectively.
