Local MD telethon pledges total seven thousand five hundred eighty four
Ottawa center for muscular dystrophy received 7584 in pledges over Labor Day weekend, similar to last year. Special events raised 4123 including 1571 from a dance-a-thon and 1072 from the DPS boot block. telephone pledges added 3461. Donors spanned 38 towns, with three in Missouri. Landowner's Decision Ends Greenwood Bridge Controversy
Harold Tabler of Ottawa RFD 3 told the Franklin County Commission he wants the Greenwood Bridge for personal land access. He may walk across if road access is limited. the county will close parts of the road near the bridge after consultation with the engineer and counselor. The bridge crossing the Marais des Cygnes River lies southeast of Pomona and will be closed due to safety and cost concerns.

Firemen Hurt In KC Collision
Kansas City police report seven firefighters and two civilians injured when two fire trucks collided while answering a call on the east side. One truck overturned and the other crashed into a vacant wood frame building, stopping inside. Four firefighters were in critical condition. a passerby and a building worker were also hurt.
