Miracle of Chavez Ravine: Dodgers sweep Giants in West clash
In a dramatic three game sweep at Dodger Stadium the Dodgers turned the tide against the Giants. Los Angeles moved within five games of the West lead while Bobby Bonds and teammates lamented missed chances as Marichal struggled despite a strong start. Wes Parker and Tom Haller fueled the offense as the Dodgers extended their best run over San Francisco since the move to the coast. The broader slate saw Pittsburgh, Montreal, and Cincinnati post lopsided wins while Yankees and Athletics won tight winners in the American League.

Prominent Blacks Bid For NFL Franchise
A Boston Record American report says a secret group of prominent Black figures led by Sammy Davis Jr and Sidney Poitier plans to petition the NFL for an expansion franchise. Memphis, Tennessee is listed as the prospective city with the Memphis Kings as a likely team name honoring Rev. Martin Luther King. John Mackey and Jim Brown are named as possible presidents but both deny active involvement. Financial backing of 12 to 14 million dollars would come from the King foundation and leading Black philanthropists.
