Scientists plan US Soviet Antarctic study on solar cosmic rays
Washington reports that the United States and the Soviet Union will collaborate this year at three US Antarctic stations and one or two Russian sites to install antenna towers 105 to 190 feet tall. The aim is to detect solar cosmic ray events and study their energy, time, and location variations with potential future participation by other nations. The GAO also notes a Navy error cost $1.1 million by delaying radar altimeter frequencies, leading to a redesign.
