Funeral services for Mrs Cora Alfreda Johnson
Funeral services for Mrs. Cora Alfreda Johnson who died August 31 were held at the Church of the Brethren on September 3. Rev. Gerald Mease officiated. Pallbearers were Hugh Higbie Fred Colshen Ivan Thornhill Albert Baldwin Darwin Thornhill and Clarence Simpson. Mrs. Gerald Mease and Mrs. Roy Gerhard sang hymns with Mrs. George Royer accompanying. Burial was in Highland Cemetery.
Rats Chewed Child to Death in Basement Apartment
In Chicago a year-old girl was found dead in her basement apartment with police reporting she had been mauled by rats. Her two sisters, sleeping nearby, were unharmed. parents were away and neighbors cared for the children at the time.

Beloved Ottawa University English Teacher Died
Dr. H. H. Ritchie longtime Ottawa University English instructor, head of the department, died Sunday at Sunset Baptist Home in Concordia at age 90. Funeral at First Baptist Church Wednesday at 3 p.m. Burial in Highland cemetery. Survived by a son, R. Morris Ritchie of St. Louis, and a daughter Evanella who died in 1929. He taught 1900 to 1950 across multiple institutions and remained active at Ottawa University through 1950. Memorials to the Ottawa University Library Fund.
