State to buy former Marymount College for patrol training
The State Finance Council voted 7-1 to release 5 million to acquire the former Marymount College in Salina and convert it into a Kansas Highway Patrol training facility. The site would replace the current Salina base at Schilling Air Force Base, now run by the Salina Airport Authority. Senator Gus Bogina opposed, arguing renovation and maintenance costs are high and a new adjacent center would be better. The council includes Gov. Joan Finney as chair and eight legislative leaders, with the 1992 Legislature previously approving seven million for the project before Finney vetoed two million.
