Rams give Bulger first-string nod as Germaine is benched

In a Friday night exhibition, Rams quarterback Marc Bulger moved ahead as the No. 2 option after Joe Germaine went 0-for-4 and was replaced by Bulger for the final three quarters in a 21-17 win over the Chiefs. Chiefs rally from 17-0 deficit but fall short.

Little League bars Almonte and team from World Series

Dominican Republic officials ruled Danny Almonte 14, not 12, voiding his perfect game and all team wins including their World Series finish. Founder Rolando Paulino barred for life. Almonte’s father faces fraud charges. Almonte’s team had earned third place after a consolation win in the tournament.

Olpe Dominates Varsity Girls Two Mile Meet at Melvern Lake

Harriers and Justin Sluder led Olpe to a low team score of 21 in the varsity girls two mile. Lebo Burlington and Central Heights followed. Central Heights sophomore Angela Chrisjohn clocked 18 24 with other runners Jenni Savage 18 34 Lynn Kratzberg and Randi Thompson. Coach John Schultze noted the south Melvern Lake course made the race tough and praised all runners.

First woman to score in Division I football game

Ashley Martin made a point after kick for Jacksonville State, becoming the first woman to play and score in a Division I football game as the Gamecocks defeated Cumberland 72 to 10 before 11,000 fans. She is a two sport athlete, also starting midfielder for JSU women’s soccer.

Rangers Top Royals Behind Sierra Grand Slam

Texas pitcher Rick Helling carried a near shutout into the ninth as the Rangers beat Kansas City 7-2. Ruben Sierra delivered his fourth career grand slam, while Mike Lamb hit an inside the park homer. Royals manager Tony Muser criticized a defensive lapse by Mark Quinn.
