Toland handles regional state race load with focus
Ottawa High sophomore Dustyn Toland balances two soccer matches and a state cross country meet in a five day span. He plays defender for a 12-4-1 soccer team and helped Ottawa beat Columbus 11-1 in a regional first round. Toland runs the 4A state cross country race Saturday in Wamego and avoids thinking about state until race time. Coach Chris Kornhaus notes his competitiveness and improvement. Toland moved from Salina to Ottawa this summer and has competed in cross country after starting running seriously last year. He previously placed at the state track meet for Salina Central, and counts being at state as a compliment. The piece previews the state 4A girls race as highly competitive with Lisa Morrisey among returning top placers.
