City officials in Ottawa weigh details of a proposed clean air ordinance after a public forum. The debate centers on how broad the ban should be from restaurants and bars to all indoor public places of employment, with support and concerns from several commissioners.

Ottawa residents joined Make A Difference Day with the Empty Bowls event raising 500 dollars from 50 sold bowls of 100 donated. Proceeds supported Women's Transitional Care Services and the Salvation Army while about 75 to 100 volunteers helped at Edward E Haley Park. Local artist Chris Burns donated about 35 bowls and participants praised the downtown event.
Ottawa High School posts an 86.6 percent graduation rate, per Principal Rick Johnson, while Central Heights High School reports 98 to 99 percent. Wellsville and West Franklin rates were not available. The district notes that Kansas dropout rates are measured by seniors who do not complete their diploma.
Garnett City Manager Joyce Martin said the city offers the remaining nine acres in the industrial park north of the ethanol plant as a site for a proposed county law enforcement center and jail. The city would also prefer to keep dispatchers as city employees to cut costs, and county commissioners indicated they would review the proposal before replying.
