County to receive 195000 terrorism grant in 2003

Franklin County will receive about 195 411 dollars from the State Homeland Security Grant Program for 2003 to strengthen terrorism countermeasures. The Kansas Highway Patrol announced the distribution of over 27 million dollars statewide, with Franklin County allocations of 50 940 and 144 471 dollars. Local officials caution on exact amounts. The grant funds will fund communications gear, radios, and related equipment, but do not solve radio tower upgrade issues. A needs assessment and committee will decide purchases, prioritizing EMS, fire, and law enforcement radio needs.
