Kansas adopts wild sunflower on new vanity license plate
The Sunflower State selects the wild native sunflower as the state flower on its new personalized plates. Critics complained a domestic variety looked obese, but officials say the wild plant embodies Kansas pride. About 80,000 of the 2.4 million plates are personalized. vanity plates cost 40 dollars every five years, with standard plates totaling 27.25 at registration. The design, by 3M, debuts next year to replace the current blue and white plates.
