No Tax Hike Dominates Kansans Debate
Gov. Robert Docking and GOP challenger Morris Kay agreed no tax increases are needed next year amid federal revenue sharing and growth but differed on how to ease tax pressure. They backed Nov. 7 amendments on executive and judiciary reform and highlighted education and welfare as priorities. Docking favored closing loopholes in the property tax lid and his circuit breaker plan, while Kay promoted a voter driven tax mix referendum. They clashed over the lid’s impact, with Docking saying it curbs taxes and Kay arguing higher levies are coming.
