The Hough and Daniel families host two Halloween yard haunts 7 to 11 p m Friday and Saturday at 608 N Cedar St and 1046 Walnut St to support MECP2 duplication syndrome research. About 300 visitors are expected. donations are requested but not required. Their son Xander has the syndrome, and this is the first year donations are asked.
Hough and group share their love of the haunting holiday with area residents. They say they do it for fun and the enjoyment of Halloween, aiming to provide good, fun family entertainment with a few scares while ensuring everyone has a good time.
The Osage County chapter of the Christian Motorcycle Association hosts a free family friendly car and motorcycle show at Grace Community Church in Overbrook from 2 to 7 pm. Registration is required for entrants and funds raised aid Run for the Son charity. Donations to East Central Kansas Economic Opportunity Corp are also welcome.
Melvern in Osage County kicks off its 30 plus year fall festival this Saturday with a 9 a.m. craft fair at the Melvern Community Center. Activities include a 1 p.m. costume parade and hayride for younger students, 2 p.m. basketball turkey shoot at City Park, a 5 to 7 p.m. ham and bean or chicken noodle dinner, and a haunted hayride from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. followed by hot dogs and chips. The event, organized by Melvern Community Pride, features vendors and family activities for a day of local fun.
The Plaza Grill and Cinema in Ottawa plans a costumed Rocky Horror Picture Show night Friday beginning with a 7 p.m. Sandbar Lawrence shuttle, 7:45 p.m. stop in Baldwin City, and a pre-Halloween party at Dunn's Landing Wellsville before a 10 p.m. showing on a new digital screen. No one under 21 admitted. Peach Mall, owner, cautions discretion for this October event and notes space is limited with ticket and bus reservations via (785) 242-5555.
The 17th annual children’s haunted house runs 5:30 to 8 p.m. Halloween night at the Santa Fe Depot Sev enth and Main streets Garnett. Sponsored by Friends of the Prairie Spirit Trail, the event honors Garnett Public Library’s 150th anniversary with a library themed display.
