Hugh M Hefner donates 500000 dollars to the University of Illinois journalism department to establish First Amendment Scholar Fellowships for graduate students. One Hefner scholar will be named each fall starting 1998, Hefner notes journalism drives democracy. Hefner is an Illinois alumnus, class of 1949.
