Tax relief plan backed to raise standard deduction
Interim committee endorsed a Tanner Larkin plan to raise both the state standard deduction and personal exemption for 1998 and 1999, plus create a 10 to 15 percent earned income credit for lower income taxpayers. Estimated relief totals grow from 39.3 million in 1998 to 63.6 million by 2000, backed by a projected $200 million revenue surplus and a $66 million windfall from Western Resources. The proposal adds a 65 or blind add on to the standard deduction and indexes the personal exemption for inflation.
