A city forum on a proposed smoking ban drew strong opinions from Ottawa residents, with some supporting bans for health and business, while others urged local leaders to respect rights and allow private property decisions. The council also discussed master planning grants, Skunk Run road repairs, WWII reenactments, a mayor for a day essay contest, and sales tax repayment issues affecting local businesses.
Jorgensen said the city will collect about 120000 less this year due to a mis calculation and a state demand to return 60000 to the county. The deduction would cut next year's sales tax share by two and a half mills. Countywide adjustments extend to other cities with Wellsville owing around 5000. Council member Samsel supported the compromise pending mayor Lytle’s review.
