Survey Finds Americans More Obese Than They Realize
A government survey based on actual measurements shows nearly a third of adults are obese, about 59 million people, up from 1994 and doubling over two decades. Twenty-three percent of adults were obese in 1994, with one in five underestimating their weight. Youth also show rising obesity, with 15 percent of ages 6 to 19 overweight. Health officials warn of long term risks and urge policy changes such as calorie labeling and healthier government meal options.
