Reds Sweep Yankees to Capture World Series Title
Sparky Anderson’s Cincinnati Reds clinched the World Series with a 7-2 win over the New York Yankees, led by Johnny Bench’s two home runs and strong pitching from Gary Nolan and Will McEnaney. Thurman Munson matched a Series record with six straight hits over two games as New York struggled to mount a comeback. The victory marked the first NL sweep since 1966 and the Reds’ second straight title, leaving Yankee Stadium eerily quiet.
