In Topeka the state Board of Regents work toward mediating a dispute after a female staffer claimed pay inequity compared with men in similar posts. Kirk Lowry said he got a call from Mary Prewitt, associate general counsel, about arranging talks. Prewitt declined further comment to the Lawrence Journal-World.

AP reports Kansas farmers face swollen credit card bills as they finance operations and medical costs. Lenders say farm bailout aid is insufficient for long term survival, with the Kansas Agriculture Mediation Service noting a sharp rise in financially stressed cases and a doubling of requests in the year ending Sept. 30. The emergency bill includes 400 million for Kansas farmers.
