KABSU Maintains Unique University Linked Bull Unit in State
KABSU remains the only unit of its kind still affiliated with a university. Director Charlie Michaels announced during a recent bull evaluation that established in 1950 with a $500000 state grant the program now relies on enterprises like bull studs dairy semen beef semen and custom services. This year 225 semen units will be processed. The unit faced a move dilemma as it is now inside town near a medical center, with Michaels stating moving would force closure due to cost. KABSU also runs AI training schools serving about 200 students annually and provides housing for 75 bulls with roughly half privately owned and community housed during peak winter and spring seasons.
