Ottawa approves BPA power deal with rate rise
After hours of public discussion the Ottawa City Commission unanimously ratified an eight page contract to buy 7 megawatts of power per hour from Kansas City Kansas Board of Public Utilities for two years starting Nov 1. They amended the KCP&L contract to relay EPA power to the city, raising winter and summer rates by four tenths of a cent per kilowatt hour and increasing the fuel base charge from one to three cents. City officials say BPA will cost 3 to 3.2 cents per kWh versus 3.7 to 3.8 cents with KCP&L, saving about 300,000 dollars annually, though critics urged more transparency in the process.

In an evening crash near K-68 and I-35, Ottawa area resident Roberta Gregg, 44, was listed in serious condition at KU Medical Center after being freed from her wrecked 1972 Chevrolet. Forrest E. The crash, attributed to sun glare and failure to see the other vehicle, left Gregg in intensive care while the truck suffered front-end damage.
