Toymakers betting that buying slowdown won't apply to them
Toy retailers and analysts expect holiday toy demand to hold despite the recession and Sept. 11. They anticipate gains from new releases tied to Harry Potter, Monsters Inc., and Lord of the Rings, plus popular Lego Bionicle sets, board games, and licensed items. Shortages loom as retailers stock conservatively while sales in early year show only a 1 percent rise.
