Painful truth of nonmarital parent child separation
Dr. Dobson discusses how any prolonged absence of a parent from children can cause anger, depression, low self esteem, and academic decline. He cites studies and a White House conference noting similar effects to divorce and warns of broader national health risks if absentee parenting continues. He recalls personal loss as a child and cautions against unnecessary separation. He also notes denial can be either protective or harmful depending on context and warns the difficulty of challenging a denier.
