Gap seen in funds for minority students in Kansas

Nationwide study by The Education Trust shows Kansas districts with the most minority students received less per pupil than those with fewer minority students during 2001-02. The report notes higher-poverty districts also receive more, while many states underfund minorities and poor students. Kansas officials defend the formula as weighted for small districts. A court ruling previously deemed the funding law unconstitutional for inequitable aid distribution.
