DAR Leaders Highlight Soil Erosion, Tree Planting in Franklin County
Herman Norwood of the Franklin County Soil Conservation District told General Edward Hand DAR members that replacing topsoil can take up to 500 years and stressed erosion control as key. He described the outdoor classroom for high school students, timber planning for future generations, and sessions on tree planting on the State Capitol lawn. The Bradford Pear and Golden Rain trees were planted in honor of state officer Mrs. John Oakleaf. A quilt block design by Mrs. Earl F. Benjamin will be added to a state meeting display. The next DAR meeting is November 13 at the First Baptist Church Parlor.
