EPA to tighten truck pollution rule in two phases
The EPA unveiled a two phased plan to curb emissions from heavy duty trucks and large SUVs. It would require new controls on tractor trailer rigs and introduce up to 90 percent sulfur reduction in diesel fuel by 2007, closing loopholes for SUVs over 8500 pounds. The rules target nitrogen oxide and soot reductions with broader standards by 2009.
