Kansas science standards debate continues on testing scope
Board member Bill Wagnon, who opposed the August standards, vows to keep voicing objections as the board plans to discuss the new science standards at a Tuesday 10 a.m. meeting in DeSoto during a tour of the district. Critics fear schools will adjust lesson plans to fit tests set for spring 2001. Supporters say local boards should decide. The standards omit big bang and macroevolution topics and reuse copyrighted materials, prompting NRC and NSTA concerns.
