The Diggs Affair and Its Aftermath in Congress
The Diggs trial ended with Rep. Charles Diggs Jr. convicted in Washington of a 66,000 payroll kickback scheme across 29 counts. He faces up to five years per count and a near 200,000 dollar fine, plans to appeal, and faces a charged national reaction. Constituents largely back Diggs, claiming a railroaded case, while his reelection bid raises questions about judicial respect and House dynamics.
