Nobel committee awards Obama Peace Prize in 2009
The Norwegian Nobel Committee stunned the world by awarding Barack Obama the 2009 Peace Prize less than nine months into his presidency. It cited his global vision for cooperation and steps to reduce nuclear arms, ease Muslim conflict, and fight climate change. Obama calls it a call to action for nations. He will donate the $1.4 million prize to charity and plans to travel to Oslo in December to accept it.
