North Korea blamed for Rangoon bombing during Chun's return
President Chun Doo Hwan blamed North Korea for the Rangoon blast that killed 19 and wounded 19, including South Korea’s deputy premier and foreign minister, as he cut short a six nation goodwill tour and ordered emergency meetings upon returning to Seoul. The attack shattered the Martyr's Mausoleum roof and prompted Burma to form a special investigation panel. The incident followed a Korean Air Lines disaster a month earlier and drew brief reactions from the Reagan administration.
