Transportation tops West Franklin meeting agenda
The West Franklin School Board approved purchasing two 1991 Chevrolet buses from Midwest Bus Sales for 33,514.93 each and a 1989 Ford Tempo from Crist Auto Sales for 6,150. The district plans to replace two vehicles sold at last weekend’s auction and will open bids for a replacement van at the Nov. 12 meeting. The board also approved travel for FBLA students, STAR training, Kansas history seminars, and computer education meetings. Coach and sponsor selections were set for several schools and districts wide Adopt-A-Highway participation was approved for multiple groups. An upcoming special session on the quality schools report will occur Nov. 1.

In Topeka presen tations for a 1991 Legislature debate on state university acceptance a KU history professor urged tighter prep while a public schools official cautioned high school courses alone do not guarantee college success. The plan would require four English units three science three math two social studies and two foreign language units with a C average, or alternatively ACT 23 plus 24 community college credit hours, with a 15 percent admissions leeway and excluding applicants 21 or older.
