Lavon Hettler of Auburn and former Ottawan has been chosen by the Topeka Chapter of the American Business Women's Association as Woman of the Year. The comptroller and newly named vice president of Munns Medical Supply in Topeka will compete for the national title in Las Vegas this weekend after 10 years with Munns and 11 years at Ransom Memorial Hospital.
Mrs Ray Miskimon of Williamsburg came home after a three week visit with two sons and families in Winslow Wisconsin and Monroe Wisconsin. She also visited friends there and in Des Moines Iowa. Mr Carl Berry and daughter from Des Moines were weekend guests of Clyde Berry’s family in rural Richmond. Mrs Floyd Briley of Wichita visited over the weekend with her sister and brother in law Clarence Fawl.
The Ottawa area AAUW activities include a Monday Elliott Hall session led by Mrs. Raymond Shields with Luella Parrott as guest speaker on giving and love’s social effects. Attendees from AAUW district 4 included Lola Pinder Grace Elliott Do Bullock Lenora Liss Ethelyn Bennett. Jeannette Pool of San Marcos presided. Other items note Marguerite Webster hosting Past Matrons and readings from Gods Psychiatry by Charles Allen. Additional social mentions cover local visits, out of town guests, and weekend gatherings across Richmond Blue Springs and Medicine Lodge.
February engagement of Lynette Hobbs and Larry Geiss announced by both families. The couple plans to wed February 16. Hobbs and Geiss are Ottawa High School graduates from the class of 1971. Hobbs works for King Radio in Ottawa while Geiss is employed at Hallmark Cards Inc. in Lawrence.
Club events listed include the Wednesday sequel at the Eldon Rader Youth Center with Mrs Richard Richmond and Mrs Cecil Vining. Hazel Rebekah Lodge meets at IOOF Hall. Zigzag Club hosts Laura Sutton. One-to-Six Club at 7:30 p.m. with Donna Davis. Interse Club led by Betty Cook.
