Federal Cuts End ECKAN Transportation Program

Due to federal funding cuts, ECKAN will stop operating the transportation program for low income residents in Franklin County after Friday Oct 14. Director Richard Jackson cites three straight years of budget reductions and plans a further 10 to 15 thousand dollar cut this fiscal year. The station wagon will stay for urgent out of town trips but not for regular runs. Volunteers may cover some needs as churches bolster local food programs, while limited federal funds remain but are thinly spread.
