Kansas Supreme Court Could Rule Before November Election
Kansas Chief Justice Alfred Schroeder said a ruling on the 1978 restaurant liquor law’s constitutionality may come before the November 7 election but is likely remote. The case tests allowing alcohol sales in restaurants with county voter approval against the state prohibition on an open saloon. The hearing is set for Oct. 27, with briefs due in time or not. The defendants include Thomas Kennedy, and the Kansas Hotels and Motel Association sought to intervene but was denied extra filing time.
