Frustration Mounts As Bosox Fail To Clinch Title
Boston fans saw another season end in disappointment as the Red Sox, despite May leads and a 2.3 million attendance, lost the AL East tiebreaker to the Yankees. Injuries and late-season slumps doomed a lineup starved for reliable pitching and depth. Jim Rice powered the offense with 46 homers and 139 RBIs, while player turnover and ownership shakeups followed in the off season.
