Redskins Defense Stifles Cowboys in Key Win
Washington’s defense, led by Diron Talber, shut down Tony Dorsett and the NFL’s top offense as the Redskins beat Dallas 9-5. The defense held at the goal line, forced a late turnover, and ensured the fifth straight win while gaining a two game NFC East edge. Tom Landry criticized the officiating after a controversial call near the end. President Carter attended the sellout crowd. Joe Theismann’s safety and Mark Moseley’s trio of field goals supplied all scoring. Dallas blamed a noncatch on a late play involving Drew Pearson turned out of bounds.
