Pomona High freshman Kassey Hays dies in crash after homecoming
Kassey Hays 14 died after a one vehicle crash on Thomas Road eight miles northwest of Ottawa Saturday morning. The Pomona High School freshman was a back-seat passenger in a 1996 Mercury Mystique driven by David Buchanan 16. Jessica Sillin 15 was in the front seat. Buchanan and Sillin sustained injuries. Hays died later at Overland Park Regional Medical Center. All occupants wore seatbelts. Funeral set for 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church with counselor support at the school today.

Third graders from Franklin County begin Day on the Farm at Sylvester Farm with ten stations on livestock equipment soils and veterinary care. About 400 students rotate through stations while a free lunch features Pomona Range apples and home economics cookies.
