The Franklin County commission voted to vacate rights of way on multiple roads including Butler Terrace Utah Road Virginia Terrace Ver mont Terrace Nebraska Terrace Ohio Road Jackson Terrace Kingman Road Sand Creek Road Neosho Lane California Road Rock Creek Road Haskell Road and Kentucky Road. Rights of way revert to current landowners or subsequent owners. Several roads viewed last week will remain county roads to preserve access to homes and fields.
A KDHE spokesman says a public hearing on Sunflower Park's wastewater permit for a Coffey County hog nursery near Westphalia is a week away. Data collection continues. after completion the secretary will decide on a hearing or 30-day comment period. The Coffey County Commission had blocked an election on corporate hogs as Sunflower seeks to expand facilities in Coffey, Franklin, and Anderson counties.
KDOT announced two projects in Osage County and Garnett. A traffic light will be installed at Maple Street and Fourth Avenue in Garnett, bid awarded to B and W Electrical Contractors of Salina for 84 778 dollars. The US 56 sealing project covers about 40 miles across three stretches from the Douglas Osage border to US 59 and from K 31 northeast to the Osage Douglas line, with sealing on K 31 from US 56 to K 170. Smith Land Company Inc. of Garden City bid 443 897 dollars for surface sealing. Work starts in a few weeks.

The board considers charging tenants a share of increased costs, using a formula based on space usage and rent, though no final method is set.
